Fatback Bikes

Carbon frameset designs that proved fat bikes could be fast, functional and look good too

OUR RELATIONSHIP
As a company dedicated to the evolution of fat bikes, Fatback Bikes (now Corvus Cycles) wasn’t the first bike company to make a carbon fatbike but they wanted to make the best. The owner, Greg Matyas, recruited Humid to design the most show-stopping, time-shaving, best-handling carbon framesets to add to their lineup.

OUR PROJECTS
Our history of frame design with Fatback included the original Corvus, Skookum, and the second generation Corvus. Our product design process made sure each project ran smoothly. Sketching for rapid iterations of form development allowed us to land each design in line with Greg’s vision in a timely manner. High quality renderings for design development and marketing made sure our framesets felt real even before hitting the bike shops. Then, once out in the world, our designs continued to set the bar for carbon fatbike design, keeping Fatback Bikes at the forefront of the fat bike world.

Elite racers set nearly every record in winter ultra-races across the nation aboard the Corvus

The Skookum grows the carbon family and widens reach

Where the Corvus was focused on elite riders in the snow, the Skookum was focused on…well, everything while still maintaining swagger through all four seasons. It needed to take the things we loved best about our favorite mountain bikes; agility, speed and sexy lines, and combine those with the amazing capabilities of a 4.8″ tire; traction, stability, flotation, and comfort.

Long, low and slack with suspension-corrected geometry built around a 120mm travel fork, the Skookum was designed as a purpose-built carbon fiber trail bike for riders who love to rip descents. The raucous mountain biker crowd was pleased with this one.

Second generation Corvus takes the lead

With new geometry and ergonomics, the second generation of Corvus quickly because the most successful fatbike in winter ultra-races. It was awarded Fatbike of the Year by multiple publications, several years in a row.
